“From ancient times no Master or Fellow could be absent from his Lodge, Especially when warned to appear at it, without incurring a severe censure, Unless it appeared, to the Master and Wardens, that pure necessity hindered them.”

June 24, 2023 the Brethren of Saint John's Lodge No.1 received special dispensation from the Grand Lodge of NL, to travel to Goose Cove, NL, to participate in a meeting with Union Lodge No. 28, of the Grand Lodge of NL.  There were five Members of Union Lodge in attendance, including those concurrent Members of our own Lodge.  During the stated meeting of Union Lodge, several Members of Saint John's Lodge No.1 assisted to enable to function of the Lodge Room.  Seven Members of Saint John's Lodge No.1 were petitioned, balloted upon and joined Union Lodge that same day.  WB Tony Collins was nominated, balloted upon and elected as the Treasurer of Union Lodge, less than 30 minutes after joining Union Lodge No. 28.  After the Regular Meeting of Union Lodge, was closed, the Brethren of Saint John's Lodge No.1, opened and performed the Second Degree Ceremony on two of our own Members.  This was the second time, any Masonic Degree Work had ever been performed at this Lodge, the first time being in 1983, when then, Saint John's Lodge No. 579, had performed a Third Degree, under the direction of WB William Radford.  There must have been something magical in that soup and sandwiches that preceded those two meetings, for such profit and pleasure to have been enjoyed.

Photographer  WB Edward Davis - timed photo.
Prior to and after the meetings, a weekend of Profit and Pleasure was enjoyed by all.  There were hikes, "twacking," and other cultural delights all culminating with a fine meal at the Twine Loft, that same evening, which lead to a get together of all the Brethren.  Sunday Morning a fine feed of moose sausages, bacon and toutons was offered up by WB Mark Baldwin and crew, and all had their fill, before making the journey back to their respective homes.

The universal AED sign, developed by the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation
Thanks to the generosity of the Brethren, in 2010, there is an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on hand at the Freemasons Hall.  Brethren and their Ladies are asked to please familiarize themselves with its location and proper usage during their next visit to the hall.  Any Brother with training or experience in using an AED should advise their Lodge Secretary, in case of an Emergency.  While some of our Brethren are already familiar with the proper steps we would like as many Brethren as possible to be aware that it is quite easy to use as it will direct the user using voice prompts once it is turned on.  Please, take the time to view these two attached links in order to familiarize yourselves with the proper method, should its use become necessary.  You could save a life.

Home of the original “PILLAR PROGRAM

Upon completion of the “Pillar Program" each successful participant will be presented with a Certificate and a Pillar Program Pin, both of which have been reviewed and approved for use by the Grand Lodge of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The certificate and the pin's format were chosen with the intention to emphasize the respectability of Freemasonry as an elevated form of social activity stressing Spiritual and Philosophical Values.  Each Certificate is numbered in order of presentation, and bears the Lodges’ Seal as witness to the accomplishments and subsequent contributions to the Craft made by the Brother to whom it has been presented, and by whom it has been signed.
